**Embanda** ---- | || ^ The Ibiri, a ritual apparatus in Zano-Ancorian spirituality. ^^ ^ Classification | Syncretic | ^ Scripture | Various | ^ Theology | Syncretic between Soterian, Zanobian diaspora, and native theologies | ^ Region | Ancoria | Embanda is a Zanobian diasporic religion practiced in Ancoria combining elements of West Zanobian religions (in particular that of the Oredodo, Mafrans and Ambundians), Canonical Soterianity and indigenous Ancorian practices. Embanda derives from the West Ambundian term for magic, mbanda, though its practitioners prefer terms like //santeiros// and //povo dos santos//, roughly translating to 'saintly people' or 'people of the saints'. This is due to the syncretic role between Soterian saints and Embanda orixás within the Embanda religion, though many others simply regard themselves to be Soterians, viewing no contradiction apparent in their practices. Highly decentralized, Embanda is divided into a number of disparate rites and 'nations' that further complicate broad oversimplification. Some of these rites share syncretic elements not only with Soterianity, but with religions such as Nirvanism, Tōnallōlloheztli and Zuhd. At its core, Embanda teaches that of a transcendent creative power to which the various spirits are subordinated under. This central creator is seen to be the source of supernatural power that can be channeled or manipulated by the means of rituals. The spirits, who often carry names and characteristics from West Zanobian deities, are usually associated with Canonical Soterian saints and myths. Divination is often used in order to communicate with these spirits and is often performed by the means of spirit mediums.
